As you know, mitosis is the process of the division of the nucleus of a cell. It ensures that equal parts of genetic material are given to each daughter cell that originates after cytokinesis.
In plants, mitosis occurs mainly in meristems, which are the tissues that allow the organism to grow. They are found, among other places, in the tips of the stem and the roots.
In the following video, you will see the process necessary to observe meristematic cells in mitosis through a microscope.
To allow light to pass through the sample.
To allow only one layer of cells to better observe them.
To remove excess stain.
So it fits under the lens.
It's easier to cut a sample there.
The meristematic tissue is growing there.
The cells are continuously in prophase.
The cells there are dividing continuously.
Without it the cells would die.
It makes photos nicer.
Without it the DNA would not be visible.
It keeps the DNA from separating.
It flattens the cells.
Observe the image of the meristematic cells from the onion root in different phases of the cell cycle.

Meristematic tissue allows an organism to grow. The tiny cells undergoing mitosis are the reason plants can grow, many of them providing food which helps us to grow and stay healthy.
When you were small, you probably planted a bean in some cotton wool to observe the way it sprouted and grew. Think about everything that you know now about what was happening on the inside of that little plant. The cells are going through an amazing process of continuous division. The genetic material within the nucleus is being divided precisely to create new cells. Without the development of microscopes this tiny world would have stayed a mystery!
you have completed the lesson!
